I am very luck to have a super mom, she is an incredible human being and my business partner and I consider her my best friend. So when my grandmother's house sold and my mom need help moving her stuff ... it was a no brainer! We packed up our bags and to the new puppy on s road trip! Kelsy is a good traveler but Emma acts like she is possessed when she in a car. I have tried every trick in my basket, positive reinforcement for good behavior (treats, snuggles, etc.), aversion therapy ... You name it I have tried it. Alas I have had to learned to live with her constant pacing and whimpering. And, through the years her constant complaining has become like white noise. But, the last thing I want is Kelsy learning to emulate Emma's neuroses. So Ryan was assigned puppy snuggling duty ... poor guy ;) ... and we were off to central New York!

Now I don't have any children at this time but I have heard about the strength of the maternal instinct. Now let me be clear ... I have never, I repeat NEVER, since purchasing Emma, had calm driving conditions when she is in the car.
So it came as a complete surprise when I pulled out of the drive way and heard utter silence from the back seat. I turned around thinking that I had somehow forgotten Emma back in the house. But no... She was sitting perfectly silent and still; her eyes turned toward Kelsy. We continued our journey and throughout the entire trip Emma remained zen like and peacefulness.
Now, I can only guess what goes on in Emma's head. But I would like to think that she didn't want Kelsy to be scared and that gave her the bravery to conquer her own fears. Since this fateful journey, Emma has traveled with Kelsy, her adopted puppy, on nearly 30 different car trips and each time she has remained calm and composed. Which goes to show you really can teach an old dog new tricks.
